Esher is a town in Surrey, in the borough of Elmbridge, with its own railway station, a High Street and large areas of common land nearby. This page brings together official information about the area for anyone thinking of buying or selling a home in KT10.
Property in Esher
Esher’s postcode district is KT10, which nearby Claygate and Hinchley Wood also share. The local authority is Elmbridge Borough Council.
The council’s conservation area appraisal for central Esher, endorsed in 2008, describes a mixture of housing. Closely packed terraces were built on the north side of the High Street, while most of the Esher Place and Claremont estates were developed with large detached houses between 1912 and 1938, which turned Esher from a country village into the centre of a commuter suburb. The appraisal adds that the conservation area is surrounded by open land, including Sandown Park Race Course, Littleworth Common, Arbrook Common and Claremont Landscape Garden.
The appraisal dates from 2008, so it shows the area’s character rather than today’s market.
House prices in Esher
The UK House Price Index, produced by the Office for National Statistics with HM Land Registry data, publishes figures by local authority rather than for Esher alone. For July 2026, the latest month available, the average price in Elmbridge was £748,000. That is 1.9% higher than the £734,000 recorded for July 2025. These are Elmbridge-wide figures, and estimates for the most recent months are provisional and may be revised.
By type of home, the July 2026 averages for Elmbridge were:
- Detached: £1,593,000
- Semi-detached: £726,000
- Terraced: £581,000
- Flats and maisonettes: £354,000
An average across a whole borough cannot tell you what a particular home in Esher is worth. For individual sales, HM Land Registry’s Price Paid Data records residential property sales in England and Wales that have been submitted for registration, so the very latest sales may not yet be included.
