Property Consultants in Mortlake (SW14)
Mortlake is a riverside district of south-west London, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, on the south bank of the Thames, with its own railway station, two conservation areas and Richmond Park nearby. This page brings together official information about the area for anyone thinking of buying or selling a home in Mortlake.
Property in Mortlake
Mortlake addresses use the SW14 postcode district, including Mortlake Green and Palewell Common. The local authority is the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and Historic England places the Burton Mausoleum, on North Worple Way, in that borough.
The council’s statement for the Mortlake conservation area, designated in 1982 and extended in 1998 and 2018, describes 18th-century listed houses on the riverside and High Street, three-storey terraces at 97 to 119 High Street with long gardens to the towpath, and matching two-storey brick cottage terraces on Fitzgerald Road and Alder Road. It says most surviving development dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, with former wharves and St Mary’s Church on the south bank of the Thames.
The council’s statement for the Mortlake Green conservation area, designated in 1988 and extended in 1998, describes terraced houses, paired houses and 19th-century cottages, mainly late Victorian and early Edwardian. It says the Green was given to the parish in 1860, after serving as a field for the brewery’s drays. A 2017 council assessment of White Hart Lane (West) describes two-storey Edwardian dwellings with gables and bay windows. The two statements are undated, so they show the area’s character rather than today’s market.
House prices in Mortlake
The UK House Price Index, produced by the Office for National Statistics with HM Land Registry data, publishes figures by local authority rather than for Mortlake alone. For July 2026, the latest month available, the average price in Richmond upon Thames was £803,000. That is 0.8% lower than the £810,000 recorded for July 2025. These are Richmond-wide figures, and estimates for the most recent months are provisional and may be revised.
By type of home, the July 2026 averages for Richmond upon Thames were:
- Detached: £1,815,000
- Semi-detached: £1,192,000
- Terraced: £916,000
- Flats and maisonettes: £487,000
An average across a whole borough cannot tell you what a particular home in Mortlake is worth. Figures for each type of home rest on fewer sales, so they can move sharply from month to month. For individual sales, HM Land Registry’s Price Paid Data records residential property sales in England and Wales that have been submitted for registration, so the very latest sales may not yet be included.
Getting around
Mortlake station, on Sheen Lane (SW14 8LN), is served by South Western Railway in fare zone 3. South Western Railway lists a car park of 9 spaces and 132 sheltered cycle spaces with CCTV, and National Rail says 4 of the car park spaces are accessible. Both list step-free access to both platforms. Journey times vary by service and time of day, so please check National Rail or South Western Railway for the train you want.
