Property Consultants in Wandsworth (SW18)

Wandsworth Town is a district of south-west London and one of the five town centres named in the London Borough of Wandsworth’s Local Plan, with a conservation area at its historic core. This page brings together official information about the area for anyone thinking of buying or selling a home in Wandsworth, and concentrates on Wandsworth Town and the SW18 area around it.

Property in Wandsworth

Wandsworth’s town-centre addresses use the SW18 postcode district, including the Town Hall (SW18 2PU) and Wandsworth Town station (SW18 1SU). SW18 also covers Earlsfield, where the station is SW18 4SR. The local authority is Wandsworth Borough Council, whose Local Plan, adopted in July 2023, names Wandsworth Town as one of its five town centres.

The council’s Wandsworth Town Conservation Area Appraisal, adopted in August 2023, says the area was designated in September 1984 and extended in May 1989. It describes mostly Victorian residential buildings, with some Georgian survivals, mainly two-storey terraced or semi-detached homes ranging from workers’ cottages to speculative terraces and villas. Newer housing is mostly flats in mixed-use developments. The appraisal notes that the High Street is part of the A3, that the River Wandle shaped local industry and is now largely hidden, and that the Ram Brewery has been redeveloped as a mixed-use quarter.

The council’s appraisal of the Wandsworth Common conservation area, which is undated, says the area was designated in 1986 and extended in 1989 and 1999. It describes mainly two- and three-storey terraces and semi-detached houses in a grid-like pattern, mostly Victorian and Edwardian.

House prices in Wandsworth

The UK House Price Index, produced by the Office for National Statistics with HM Land Registry data, publishes figures by local authority rather than for Wandsworth alone. For July 2026, the latest month available, the average price in Wandsworth was £686,000. That is 5.5% lower than the £726,000 recorded for July 2025. These are Wandsworth-wide figures, and estimates for the most recent months are provisional and may be revised.

By type of home, the July 2026 averages for Wandsworth were:

  • Detached: £2,496,000
  • Semi-detached: £1,345,000
  • Terraced: £971,000
  • Flats and maisonettes: £527,000

An average across a whole borough cannot tell you what a particular home in Wandsworth is worth. Figures for each type of home rest on fewer sales, so they can move sharply from month to month. For individual sales, HM Land Registry’s Price Paid Data records residential property sales in England and Wales that have been submitted for registration, so the very latest sales may not yet be included.

Getting around

Wandsworth Town station, on York Road (SW18 1SU), is managed by South Western Railway in fare zone 2. South Western Railway lists no car parking and 32 cycle spaces outside the station, and describes services to London Waterloo. National Rail currently lists no step-free access. Wandsworth Borough Council says a £20 million Network Rail upgrade, with lifts to all platforms and a second entrance on Odyssey Way, is due to finish in summer 2027.

Earlsfield station, on Garratt Lane (SW18 4SR), is also served by South Western Railway, in fare zone 3, with no car parking, 20 open cycle spaces and step-free access to all platforms, according to the operator. Journey times vary by service and time of day, so please check National Rail or South Western Railway for the train you want.

By road, the High Street is part of the A3. The council says it is working with Transport for London on changes to the town centre’s one-way road system, on a page last updated in March 2026.
